1 Corinthians 16:13
Paul’s words to the Corinthians are just as true for us today as they were then:
“Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong.” -1 Corinthians 16:13, NAB
The world is full of challenges, and we are challenged to stay strong. The source of our strength, as Catholics, should be our faith. If we try to rely on our own strength, we will stumble along the way, but if we rely on the strength we receive through God’s grace, we can overcome any obstacle.
Many times, we walk into church on Sunday, profess our faith, but we fail to live out our faith in our daily lives. Applying our faith in the real world can be one of the greatest challenges we face. We give lip service to our beliefs, yet we do not allow our lives to be an example of what we believe.
The stronger our faith becomes, the more we will be under attack. Satan does not have to attack the weak because they already do his work willingly. It is the strong that present a challenge to him, and he will do his best to break us. As Paul states, we must be on guard against these attacks, and we must be courageous enough to meet these attacks head on.
Are you on your guard? Are you courageous enough to stand up for what you believe in? Are you strong and stand firm in your faith? Even if you fail today, get back up tomorrow. Even if you have struggled your whole life, it is not too late to change your course. Let your faith define who you are. Stand up to the attacks the world, and Satan himself, brings into your life. Do not rely on your own strength, but on the strength that comes from the Lord.
