1 Corinthians 10:9-12
It’s Not Over Yet…
Many Christians have a false sense of security, and this can be dangerous:
“Let us not test Christ as some of them did, and suffered death by serpents… Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall. ” -1 Corinthians 10:9-12, NAB
Our God is a kind, loving, and merciful God, but we must take care not to take it for granted. In the minds of many Christians, simply accepting Christ makes us worthy of salvation, but nothing truly makes us worthy of salvation. No matter how much we profess His name, it is only by His mercy that we are saved. Have you ever heard someone say, “I believe in God, but I just don’t feel the need to belong to a church.” By simply calling out His name, they expect to be saved.
In Matthew 7, Jesus tells us:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'” -Matthew 7:21-23
Our God is a gracious God, but we must truly know Him to be saved by Him. We may hope for our salvation, but we must never assume it. The minute we begin to assume that we are saved, we are lost.
